Our response
The inquiry call for evidence questions are broad in scope, and as such we have focused our attention on questions directly related to our expertise. In sum, we state that the needs and best interests of looked after children and young people must always be centred in decision making. Services and systems should be designed to facilitate this; for example, to enable support to seamlessly cross borders when children and young people move out of area, without creating delays in their access to care.
We also highlight specific groups that will need special consideration in the inquiry, such as children and young people seeking asylum and refuge (CYPSAR).
We are supportive of the incorporation on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) into domestic legislation in England, as this would bring more power to enact change for the benefit of all children.
