Professor Steve Turner, said:
I am honoured and excited to be elected as College President. I am deeply thankful for all the support that I have received from family, friends and colleagues. We are entering a crucial time for child health, and I know that there are many challenges ahead. But I look forward to working with members and College staff in advocating for paediatricians and children at every given opportunity.
I also want to give thanks to Camilla and her superb leadership. I have very big shoes to fill.
Current RCPCH President, Dr Camilla Kingdon, said:
I am thrilled to be passing on the baton to Steve, who has been an exemplary advocate for child health. He is an excellent colleague, doctor and champion for child health, and I have no doubt he will be an excellent President too. Congratulations Steve! I look forward to supporting your work in the years ahead.
I also want to pay tribute to the other four candidates who ran this year, it is a very encouraging sign that we had such strong competition for this important role.
RCPCH Chair, Joanne Shaw, said:
On behalf of the Board of Trustees, I want to congratulate Professor Turner on his election as President with such strong support from members of the College. We are delighted that so many of our members chose to have their voices heard through this election. Steve is already a valued member of the Trustee Board, and we look forward very much to working with him in this new post when he takes it up his post in 2024, taking over from Camilla who is a brilliant role model in this important leadership position.
