Professor Turner is a consultant paediatrician in general and respiratory paediatrics at Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital. He has a long background working at the College as was RCPCH Scotland Officer from 2016-2021 and became RCPCH Registrar in Spring 2021. Steve has been elected as president for a three-year term.

RCPCH President, Professor Steve Turner said:

I am truly honoured to become President of RCPCH; it is a huge privilege and I want to thank members and colleagues from around the world who have put their faith in me. I want to also thank my family, friends and colleagues in Aberdeen for their support.

The next three years will be a crucial time for paediatricians, children and young people. Across the four countries of the UK, child health inequalities continue to widen, poor mental health is soaring, and record numbers of children are waiting for care. As a nation, we have to take child health and wellbeing more seriously. And we need to have a workforce able and ready to deliver.

Children and young people deserve to have the best NHS care possible, but they will only do so when their NHS workforce is valued, receives real investment, and is truly supported. Right now, support for the child health workforce must be stepped up.

There are considerable challenges ahead, especially this close to a UK General Election. I am committed to working with members and College staff in advocating for paediatricians and children at every given opportunity, across the UK and around the world.
