NPDA Data Access Requests - Overview
The NPDA collects national information on children and young people with diabetes and publishes annual aggregated results. Researchers and organisations can request additional data where there is a clear purpose, and the appropriate approvals are in place.
Data available:
- Current and historic NPDA datasets (clean data from 2004; raw data from 2013).
- National, regional, and local summary statistics are available here . Further summary statistics can be requested via the NCAPOP Information Request Form.
- Patient-level data, shared only with a valid legal basis (usually Section 251 approval) and with identifying details pseudonymised.
Applicants should contact the NPDA team to discuss their proposal. Requests for patient-level data or bespoke analyses are submitted through HQIP’s Data Access Request process. HQIP provides guidance, including a video overview.
Charges apply to cover the staff time needed to prepare and securely share data. Fees depend on the complexity of the request. Discounts or waivers may be considered for unfunded projects that offer clear benefit.
Where NPDA staff contribute to a project, authorship should be discussed. All publications using NPDA data must acknowledge the audit, HQIP and participating services.
