New Year Honours 2024

The New Year Honours list has been announced celebrating contributions to supporting children and young people from across the country.

We are delighted to see that Professor Simon Kenny, national clinical director for children and young people and paediatric surgeon at Alder Hey, has been awarded an OBE for services to Paediatric Surgery.

Honours are also awarded to a wide group individuals from charities, science, and research supporting children and families across the country, thank you for all you do for children and young people.  In particular we’d like to acknowledge and thank the following for their lifetime’s work in improving child health:

  • Professor Anthony David Edwards, Professor of Paediatrics and Neonatal Medicine, King's College London. For services to Health Research
  • Professor Matthew David Snape, Lately Professor in Paediatrics and Vaccinology, Oxford  Vaccine Group, University of Oxford. For services to Public Health, particularly during Covid-19
  • Dr Mala Rao OBE, Senior Clinical Fellow, Imperial College London and RCPCH Honorary Fellow. For services to Public Health, the NHS, and to Equality and Diversity
  • Belinda Alison Voos, Lately Nurse Consultant in Paediatric Neurosurgery, Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust. For services to Paediatric Neurosurgical Nursing
  • Professor Neil James McCready Mortensen, Lately President, Royal College of Surgeons of England. For services to Surgery.
  •  Professor Margaret Mary Rae, Lately President, UK Faculty of Public Health. For services to Public Health and to Public Health Standards
