These standards apply to all children and young people aged 0-18 years with an endocrine condition (including growth, hormonal, bone and mineral disorders). They are intended for healthcare professionals and for service commissioners to plan, deliver and quality assure paediatric endocrine services.
This document, produced by the British Society for Paediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes and endorsed by RCPCH, is concerned with standards of care for services managing paediatric endocrine conditions at lead specialist centres and network centres.
The standards aim to ensure equitable services providing high quality, safe and effective care are available to all children and families across the UK. They focus on these domains:
- Access to specialised paediatric endocrine services
- Resources of specialised paediatric endocrine services
- Environment and facilities, care of the child and family/patient experience
- Communication
- Clinical governance, professional education and training and evidence base
