July 2026
The 2026 Summer Meeting of the Scottish Paediatric Society was held at Hamilton Park Racecourse, a distinguished and historic venue in Hamilton. I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Dr David Beattie (NHS Lanarkshire) for hosting such a productive and enjoyable meeting. I am also grateful to the SPS Committee for their considerable efforts in organising the event, and in particular to our Secretary, Dr Lana O’Hara, whose exceptional organisation, dedication, and support were instrumental in ensuring its success.
SPS continues to provide a high-quality platform for educational programme and the Summer Meeting at Hamilton Park successfully fulfilled that objective. The scientific programme showcased a broad range of research, quality improvement, and educational projects, highlighting the talent and commitment within the paediatric community to improving outcomes for children and young people.
The enthusiasm and active participation of attendees throughout the symposium created a vibrant, collaborative atmosphere that fostered meaningful discussion and the exchange of ideas. The event successfully brought together healthcare professionals from a wide range of disciplines and settings reinforcing the importance of professional networks and collaborative working in addressing the challenges facing child health services across Scotland.
A key highlight was the mini-symposium on Hospital at Home services, showcasing innovative initiatives across Scotland. Discussions highlighted the benefits of delivering acute paediatric care safely at home and reinforced the need for a national framework to ensure equitable access.
As President, I derived considerable satisfaction from seeing exceptional attendance and the breadth and depth of experience represented among attendees. Participants ranged from medical students at the beginning of their professional careers to senior colleagues whose extensive expertise, insight, and longstanding contributions continue to enrich the paediatric community in Scotland.
The meeting also underscored the SPS’s continued commitment to nurturing future leaders in paediatrics through dedicated presentations and competitive research sessions. Beyond the formal scientific programme meeting provided an important opportunity for peer-to-peer networking, collaboration, and the sharing of best practice.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for supporting the Scottish Paediatric Society. We also encourage you to explore the rest of the website, including the membership section, to learn more about the Society and its work.
