About this course

In this course, you'll explore how you develop trust and open communications, manage risk and support young people’s rights within your service and individual practice.

The course is co-designed and co-delivered by young people from the AYPH North-East England Hub young trainers hub. These young trainers have lived experience of health services and long term health conditions and use this knowledge to shape the training ensuring it reflects the issues and challenges facing young people growing up in the north-east. 

Learning objectives

By the end of this course you will:

  • understand some of the pressures for young people living in the North East experience when they are trying to manage their health
  • understand and feel more confident about the characteristics and approach needed to support young people
  • have a better understanding about how to provide health support in a welcoming environment and with appropriate support for young people.

Target audiences

  • Paediatric trainees, SAS doctors and consultants in paediatrics 
  • Health professionals from other medical disciplines
  • Education, social care and Voluntary sector staff working to support young people’s health 

Course lead

AYPH courses are co-designed and delivered with young people who have lived experience of long term health conditions and/or who experience challenges accessing health services. 

The AYPH young training team receive training and support to help them co-design and deliver quality training for professionals that enables participants to gain insights to a young service user perspective.  The NE young trainers hub is led by Association for Young People’s health and hosted and supported by Children North East.
