Research funding opportunities

Funding for UK-registered medical practitioners for either research in progress or prospective paediatric research.

Provides funding to encourage and further medical research in a variety of areas. Applications are invited from doctors and research scientists and can be for either research in progress or prospective research.

Grants are offered for research projects that further the goals of ‘VISION 2020: The Right to Sight’. Research grants are available to clinicians, scientists or epidemiologists for 'pump-priming' to develop their research ideas and generate pilot data to facilitate a future application for a substantial grant or to provide funding for a non-clinical PhD or DrPH studentship.

Funding is available to support a PhD student performing research in one or more of the following priority areas: chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), children’s lung disease and bronchiectasis.

Aims to fund a UK-wide study to describe the occurrence of IBD (inflammatory bowel disease), stratified by age, socioeconomic status, ethnicity and geographical location.

Comic Relief primarily makes grants to create long term change, to help achieve a world where everyone is safe, healthy, educated and empowered. Funding is allocated under four programme areas - investing in children and young people, empowering women and girls, improving health and wellbeing and building stronger communities.

To support a single project or part of a larger ongoing project aimed at understanding, treating and seeking a cure for Inflammatory Bowel Disease.

Provides specialist training in cystic fibrosis medicine, and aims to train the future leaders of specialist adult CF care. Also give Fellows the opportunity to embark on clinically-based research, service evaluation or quality improvement projects, which will dovetail into their clinical training programmes.

Provides a grant of up to £100,000 to support the training of a graduate student to take up a career in ophthalmic and vision research and leading to the presentation of a PhD.

Aims to support innovative approaches and ideas. Projects should test and develop ideas and approaches to improve health and social care delivery or the way people manage their own health care in the UK.
