Year James Spence Medal awarded: 2015
Professor David Dunger is Professor of Paediatrics at Cambridge University, and one of the UK’s pre-eminent paediatric researchers.
His research focuses on three key areas: Pathogenesis of type 1 diabetes and its complications; Perinatal origins of risk for obesity and type 2 diabetes; and Experimental Medicine. He has a particular interest in the pathophysiology of diabetes during childhood and adolescence and the genetic environmental interactions which determine size at birth and childhood growth.
For his substantial achievements in all of these areas, he is strongly commended for the James Spence Medal.
