Course overview
Our Paediatric Allergy Training (PAT) series is designed to enhance your knowledge and confidence in managing children with food allergies and their comorbid allergic conditions.
To gain the full benefit from this unique series, we advise delegates to begin with PAT 1 and work through to PAT 3. The series will cover increasing complexity in allergy management through PAT 1, 2 and 3.
You need to have completed the second study day in the series (PAT 2), before attending PAT 3. See ‘Target audience’ below for more information.
The course was delivered by experts and they brought a wealth of knowledge to this course
Course description
This course will take you through the practical aspects of recognising and managing paediatric allergy. Topics covered include: urticaria, venom allergy, drug allergy and complex allergy cases.
Using interactive workshops, we will explore severe non IgE mediated food allergy, ‘grey cases’ of food allergy, anaphylaxis, and the management of severe eczema as well as severe asthma.
The faculty for the PAT series consists of a multi-disciplinary team of expert consultants, senior nursing staff, dietitians and GPs working in allergy care across the UK, who will share real life examples and cases throughout the course to support your learning.
I attended PAT 1-3 and found them all excellent. Really clarified in my mind how to approach these allergy cases.
Course aim
The PAT courses provide healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills required to effectively manage children with food allergies and their comorbid allergic conditions.
Learning outcomes
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
- Undertake an allergy focused clinical history to interpret SPT and specific IgE results and assess how and when to undertake food challenges
- Explain complex allergy problems, food challenges and underlying disease mechanisms
- Discuss the long-term management and follow up of food allergy and common allergic conditions
- Identify strategies for the prevention of food allergy by dietary manipulation
- Recognise the importance of team practice in a multi-disciplinary environment for the effective management of paediatric allergy
