BPSU undertakes active surveillance of paediatric conditions and infections across the UK and Ireland. it's seeking a Republic of Ireland representative to help the Unit achieve its strategic aims and objectives.

Internationally known, BPSU is a joint initiative between the RCPCH, Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) and University College London, Great Ormond Street - Institute of Child Health (ICH).
The Scientific Committee reports to the BPSU Partnership Board and comprises experts in paediatrics, epidemiology, and public health, and includes paediatric trainee and public representatives. The Scientific Committee advances knowledge on rare childhood conditions through a national reporting scheme spanning the UK and Ireland, supporting BPSU's aims and objectives.
Duties of this role include:
- Support the Unit to achieve its strategic aims and objectives
- Supporting the peer review and approvals process of studies of conditions proposed for inclusion on the ‘orange card'
- Support the work of the Medical Advisers and the appointment, induction and work of other committee members
- Contribute to the development of a yearly strategic review including work and financial plan
- Be an advocate for the work of the BPSU
