Specialty Forum

The Specialty Forum's purpose is to serve as a communications channel between RCPCH and groups representing paediatric sub-specialties and special interests.

The Specialty Forum was originally established as the Specialty Board in July 2015, and was renamed in 2025.

The Specialty Forum's aims and responsibilities are to:

  • Receive updates from members on relevant specialty activities
  • Receive updates from RCPCH officers and staff on relevant RCPCH activities
  • Discuss issues of common concern, which may include:
    • Health service configuration and delivery
    • Workforce issues
    • Research and academic work
    • Training in paediatric sub-specialties (though respecting the competence of CSACs, College Specialty Advisory Committees, on this issue)
    • Post-CCT education provision in paediatric sub-specialties, whether by the College or the Specialty Groups
    • Sharing of seminal publications related to specialist areas to support evidence based practice
  • Elect the Specialty Forum member representative(s) to the RCPCH Council as required by RCPCH Election Regulation 16 xi

Specialty Forum has a Council Representative that acts as a representative of all paediatric specialties and paediatric special interest groups. Council Specialty Forum Representative is nominated and elected by the Specialty Forum members. Council Specialty Forum Representative represents the views of specialty and special interest groups' members at Council and reports back RCPCH activities and Council discussions to members. Specialty Forum's current representative at Council is Dr Tony Hulse from British Society for the History of Paediatrics and Child Health.

The Specialty Forum currently has 49 member groups, including the RCPCH. Information and contact details for Specialty Groups and Special Interest Groups can be found on dedicated webpage.
