Our guidance includes five documents, including a practical guide - defining what neurodiversity is, how to support those who are neurodivergent and the strengths the neurodivergent workforce can bring - real-life case studies and checklists to help those who will be supporting neurodivergent paediatricians.
Dr Pei Sen (Nikki) Tee is the College's Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) clinical lead helping to deliver this work. She explains why she got involved and how she hopes this guidance will support the neurodivergent paediatric workforce going forward.
"It has been a true pleasure to lead the development of this important piece of work. I became involved because I truly believe in the importance of celebrating neurodiversity and fostering an inclusive environment. Neurodivergent individuals bring unique strengths and perspectives that are invaluable, yet often face challenges in traditional training settings.
"Recognising the need for tailored support, I felt compelled to contribute to creating a more equitable space for neurodivergent residents in the paediatric workforce.
"This guidance aims to provide practical strategies to accommodate the diverse needs of neurodivergent individuals. By offering this support, I hope to empower neurodivergent professionals to thrive in their roles, enriching the paediatric field with their creativity, innovation, and diverse viewpoints. Ultimately, these guidelines are a step toward building a workforce that is not only more diverse but also more supportive, understanding, and inclusive for all.
