National Paediatric Diabetes Audit (NPDA) - Reporting dashboards

The NDPA collects information on the care and diabetes outcomes of all children and young people receiving care from paediatric diabetes teams in England, Wales and Jersey. The interactive dashboards on this page shows quarterly and annual data on our key performance indicators.

As well as our detailed annual reports, we publish audit data in two interactive dashboards presented on this page: quarterly reporting dashboard and annual dashboard.

Quarterly reporting dashboard

This dashboard presents results on key performance indicators and is updated each quarter. It follows a request from our commissioner, Healthcare Quality Improvement Partnership (HQIP), to refresh data at frequent intervals in the public domain.

The data in this dashboard are not subject to the same validation and cleaning processes as the core NPDA dataset for our annual reports. Therefore, results are subject to change between dashboard updates and before the annual report publication.

View the dashboard below or on the Microsoft Power BI website. Download: 16 January 2025. Last updated: 10 February 2025

The NPDA Q4 dashboard update has been delayed. We’re working to resolve the issue and will update it as soon as possible. Thanks for your patience.

FAQs on the quarterly reporting dashboard

We encourage you to read these frequently asked questions so you fully understand the dashboard and the data within. You can also see how we collect data on our data submission and transparency and open data pages.

What data is included?

Only data from children and young people whose data have been submitted before the specified download date in each quarter will be included in the reports.

Only data for the NPDA key performance indicators will be refreshed in quarterly outputs. Performance data will be available at several layers, including PDUs, Health Boards/Integrated Care Services, Regional networks, NHS England Regions, and nationally. All other analyses will be performed at the end of the audit year when preparing the annual reports.

Please note that the data is provisional, and may be subject to change between quarterly updates and before the annual report publication.

Why are some data points replaced by asterisks?

Small numbers have been replaced by asterisks in these reports. This has been done to protect patient confidentiality and ensure no patient-identifiable information is published. This is in line with the RCPCH data disclosure risk management policy.

What's the difference between 0% and No data?
  • 0% means that the site scored 0% on that performance indicator.
  • 'No data' means that the selected site submitted no data for that measure.
  • * represents small numbers which have been suppressed/masked for patient confidentiality.

If your selected report states 'No data' for all points, it means that no patient records have been completed in that level of granularity.

When are reports updated?

In the first instance, dashboards will be updated quarterly. The refresh dates will be in May, July, and October.

Why doesn't my PDU's data look right?

If you are concerned that the data displayed in the dashboard does not represent the data entered, please let us know at npda@rcpch.ac.uk. These data are provisional and allow for extra quality assurance where data entry can be corrected before the annual analysis and reporting.

If your PDU has not submitted any data before the download date, then your data will show 'No data'.

Why has my PDU's data changed drastically between reports?

Quarterly outputs only represent the data submitted by each download date. If data is not submitted prospectively, for example, if more data is submitted in the last quarter, each quarterly report will differ from the previous update and may be very different to the annual report. This may also affect how your data compares to your peers and to regional/national averages, and it is important to keep this in mind when interpreting the data presented here.

If you are a clinician submitting NPDA data, you can improve the data within the dashboard, and its use by your service, by submitting data prospectively throughout the year.

NPDA annual dashboard

This dashboard presents final results for the audit year and is published alongside the annual report. It replaces our previous platform, NPDA Results Online.

You can view the dashboard below to see:

  • overall annual summary report for a selected paediatric diabetes unit (PDU)
  • view and compare the results for specific audit measures for different PDUs, networks or CCG/LHB
  • view whether any given PDU's key performance results are outside the expected average range (in Outlier analysis section)
  • view historic data from NPDA Results Online.
