Your exam results (MRCPCH and DCH)

You can access your results on your online account six to seven weeks after the exam. We will email your detailed results breakdown approximately one week after that. For clinical exams, candidates wishing to submit a complaint or feedback after receiving their results should do so as soon as possible. Find out more including breakdowns of exam pass rates here.

Theory exams

We undertake extensive quality assurance before publishing theory exam results.

We do not offer the option of a re-mark.

If you experience issues of any kind on the day, which you  think affected their performance, you can submit a request to RCPCH Help Centre.

MRCPCH Clinical

To apply for MRCPCH Clinical, you need a confirmed pass result in all three MRCPCH theory exams.

The pass mark for MRCPCH Clinical is set using a modified Angoff standard setting process. All Angoff panel members are fully trained in the level of the exam, changes to exam stations and marking domains, the concept of the minimally competent candidate and in the Angoff process itself. During the process, subject matter experts (SMEs) are able to discuss their scoring with their colleagues (a key part of the Angoff method). Judgments made by SMEs are averaged to determine the final pass mark, thereby setting the standard for determining a competent candidate.

The minimum pass mark for the MRCPCH Clinical (face to face exam format) is 62 out of the 82 available marks, a pass mark of 75.6%. All UK and overseas face-to-face MRCPCH Clinical centres are assessed to this pass mark standard.

We routinely analyse the performance of exam candidates. Statistical evidence suggests that a candidate who has a poor performance on the MRCPCH Clinical, and then re-attempts soon after, will perform lower than the expected standard. The RCPCH Examinations Board agreed to re-instate a deferment mark for this exam as of 2023.

A deferment mark is a mark of 52 or below. If you score 52 or below, from 2023 onwards, this will result in an automatic deferment for the next diet. This will mean that candidates receiving a deferment score must not apply for the next diet of exams. For example, if you were to receive a deferment score of 52 or below for an MRCPCH Clinical exam sat in 2023.1 diet then you would not be eligible to sit in 2023.2 diet and could reapply to sit in 2023.3 diet.

We strongly advise that you only apply to take or re-attempt MRCPCH Clinical when you feel ready. You can take time to consider your feedback and get more experience. It may be helpful to discuss your results feedback with your educational supervisor or another senior colleague (sponsor) before deciding on when to apply for your next attempt. Please refer to the MRCPCH Clinical How to apply webpage for related information regarding sponsors.

For information about complaints and feedback for MRCPCH Clinical, see the MRCPCH/DCH regulations and rules

DCH Clinical

The pass mark is set using a modified Angoff standard setting process. Currently the DCH Clinical is delivered online, and the impact of this delivery is accounted  for.

The DCH Clinical pass mark is currently set at 160/192.

The pass mark for the face-to-face format of DCH Clinical is 120/144.

For information about complaints and feedback for DCH Clinical, see the MRCPCH/DCH regulations and rules
