New RCPCH letter template to request time for College duties

This template recognises the importance of undertaking extracurricular work for the wider benefit of paediatrics and child health, which the College believes to be an investment and directly beneficial to Trusts.

The RCPCH has developed this letter template for Trust CEOs and Medical Directors requesting that paediatricians be allowed time off to contribute to College duties.

Members are encouraged to use this template when requesting time for College duties. The letter can also be included in members’ appraisal folders for revalidation.

Paediatricians intending to make such requests may also wish to refer to the June 2017 letter - downloadable below - from the GMC, NHS England and Chief Medical Officers from the four nation governments, which outlines the benefits of doctors undertaking national work and encourages employers to look favourably on such applications for absence.

If you’d like the College to send you the letter which you can pass on to your CEO or Medical Director locally, get in touch with the member of College staff who is your point of contact, for example the committee lead.

Alternatively, send an email to requesting the letter, along with a brief explanation of your College role.
