- About the NNAP
-
The National Neonatal Audit Programme (NNAP) assesses whether babies admitted to neonatal units receive consistently high-quality care in relation to the NNAP audit measures that are aligned to a set of professionally agreed guidelines and standards.
The NNAP also identifies variation in the provision of neonatal care at local unit, regional network and national levels and supports stakeholders to use audit data to stimulate improvement in care delivery and outcomes.
We report key outcomes of neonatal care, measures of optimal perinatal care, maternal breastmilk feeding, parental partnership, neonatal nurse staffing levels and other important care processes.
This year, for the first time, the NNAP has reported on equity in neonatal care, analysing data for areas where delivery of neonatal care interventions has differed by ethnicity.
- Summary report and resources
-
The NNAP summary report presents the key messages and national recommendations. It includes a 'results at a glance', which is also available as a stand-alone poster.
Other resources:
- Extended analysis report on 2024 data - provides in-depth results and a summary of findings by audit measure, along with next steps and resources
- Line of sight table - describes the evidence base for the recommendations made in this report
- Recommendations collated from NNAP summary reports on 2018-2023 data
- Data dashboards (including 'NNAP Online')
-
NNAP Online is our interactive dashboard with audit data from 2024 and previous reports going back to 2014. You can:
- view an annual summary report for a selected neonatal unit or network for an audit year between 2014 and 2024
- view and compare the results for specific NNAP audit measures for different units, unit designations or networks
- go to the outlier analysis section to see whether a result for a unit or network is outside the expected range
- download unit posters for NNAP 2024 data
The NNAP frequent reporting data dashboard has provisional NNAP data at the unit and network level. There is a public access dashboard available on this website, which links to a restricted access dashboard for those with permissions.
To access the restricted access dashboard, select the navigation button on the public access dashboard. If you do not have access and need this for a unit or network, email us at nnap@rcpch.ac.uk.

- Guidance for parents and carers
-
Your baby's care is the parent and carer guide to our annual summary report, and is updated for 2024. This the NNAP measures most relevant to parents and carers, as chosen by parents and carers of preterm babies, supported by neonatologists. It includes images and quotes from parents and carers of preterm babies who received neonatal care. We encourage neonatologists and paediatricians to share it with parents.
