Update on theory exams for the 2020.3 diet

We are delaying the application window for theory exams in the third diet of this year (2020.3) so we can explore all options to safely deliver the exams later this year.

Update, 1 July We can confirm full details of theory exam delivery for this year’s third diet. We will offer candidates two options for taking the exam, and you can read more in our candidate guides:

You can also find out more about both options in our frequently asked questions.

A series of addendums and additions to the exams rules and regulations will be in place to account for the expanded delivery methods (see Appendix L). You should read through them, in conjunction with the full rules and regulations, before you book your exam.

You can find out the new application dates on our Theory exams - how to apply page.

As you are no doubt aware, the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in many everyday things being disrupted and our professional examinations are no different.

We are committed to delivering theory exams in the UK and internationally before the end of 2020.3. We will provide full updates of what options are available to all candidates as soon as we have solid information to share.

As other Medical Royal Colleges are doing, we are looking at all options, including social distancing at test centres, remote delivery and more. Evaluating these options and working out the most practical way to deliver secure exams in a way that provides a positive service for our candidates is taking us time.

For AKP (Applied Knowledge in Practice) 2020.2 candidates, we will be in touch directly via email about options available to you for transferring to the 2020.3 examination sitting.

You can find out the new application dates on our Theory exams - how to apply page.

We have pulled together some frequently asked questions (FAQs), accessible from the Examinations landing page, which we'll regularly review and update as necessary.
